Clayton Linn of Lake Elsinore, a fugitive since September of 1999, was arraigned in Riverside County following his extradition from Indiana.
Investigators allege the 35-year-old man, who left California before being charged, filed a fraudulent theft claim with his insurer.
According to CDI fraud investigators, in September of 1998, Linn filed a claim with the California State Automobile Association (CSAA) claiming the theft of a trailer that had been attached to his pickup truck. The trailer allegedly contained more than $24,000 of personal property.
Linn submitted various invoices and receipts to CSAA to verify he owned the items. Yet during the investigation, some of the supposedly stolen items (items that were in Linn’s possession after the date of the alleged theft) were matched through serial numbers shown on the invoices submitted for reimbursement.
CSAA did not pay out on this claim, but if it had, the company could have paid Linn more than $24,000 to which he was not entitled.
