The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas’ annual convention will be held June 13-14 at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Houston. IIAT promises a jam-packed two days of continuing education workshops, one-on-one consultation sessions, a huge trade show and the ever-popular golf tournament. Thursday, June 13, focuses on sales and young agents’ issues with workshops such as “Internet Know-How: Critical To Your Success,” with Bill Wilson, the father of IIABA’s Virtual University and “Keeping Customers in a Hard Market,” with Chris Amrhein from Lorton, Va. The Thursday sales luncheon with Larry Winget, who has sold his way from a chicken ranch in Oklahoma to become one of the nation’s top sales trainers and most respected speakers, will be followed by his session, “The Simple Way to Sell.” Sessions on Friday, June 14, include an “Industry Issues Panel,” in which experienced company leaders explore how the industry can address runaway costs and improve its public image. Panelists include Bebe Canter of IIABA; Dan Glaser, EVP of the Domestic Brokerage Group of the AIG Cos.; Bruce Milligan, CEO of Republic Insurance Co.; and Doug Elliot, president and COO of Travelers Insurance Co. Among the other Friday sessions are: “Small Agency Round Tables: Best Practices,” “Reinsurance: The Invisible Underwriter,” and “Insuring Dwellings in Texas: What Does the Future Hold?” Friday is also CSR Day, the highlights of which include a special luncheon featuring Sara Canaday of Empowerment Enterprise, who will speak on “Developing a Professional Presence: How to Send Signals of Success.” Other convention highlights include “Ask the Experts” sessions and the Wade F. Spilman luncheon, at which the organization’s new officers will be installed.
