Barbara Carey

ACE USA announced two appointments in its ACE Casualty Risk Unit. William Hazelton has joined as senior vice president and underwriting manager for ACE Environ-mental Risk, and Mitchell Schmidt is now senior vice president and underwriting manager for the Custom Casualty Unit.

Sandy Sherman

Based in New York, Hazelton will be responsible for retail-focused environmental business, new business development and underwriting activities for ACE Environmental Risk in the United States. He has more than 15 years of underwriting and claims experience in the environmental insurance market.

Imelda Tolentino

Schmidt joined ACE USA in July 2003 as Midwest Regional excess casualty manager and now is based in Philadelphia. He has held senior leadership roles within ACE Casualty Risk, most recently serving as western zone manager responsible for the excess liability and custom casualty product offerings for five of the nine ACE USA regions.

Nancy Cordero

Adrienne Reid has joined Philadelphia-based Towers Perrin’s reinsurance business as a senior vice president. Based in Stamford, Conn., she will have production responsibilities for key national, regional and specialty carriers in the P/C insurance industry, as well as will be involved with major client relationships.

Marleen Francis

Reid brings marketing and reinsurance expertise to the firm. Prior to joining Towers Perrin, she was chief underwriting officer of American Re Broker Market. She also has held senior positions at Zurich Re and General Re.

Selective Insurance Group Inc. has appointed John Marchioni in Andover, N.J., to senior vice president of personal lines underwriting and Kathy Muedder in Matthews, N.C., to senior vice president, casualty line of business manager of Selective Insurance Company of America.

Marchioni will implement the company’s personal lines strategy and manage operations in the personal lines strategic business unit. He previously was vice president of commercial mercantile/service strategic business unit. He joined Selective in 1998 as a government affairs specialist and was named department director in 2000.

Muedder now oversees the commercial casualty underwriting, loss control and premium audit functions at Selective. She joined Selective in May 2005 with casualty underwriting and government affairs experience. Most recently, she was senior vice president of emerging issues for ACE USA. She is on the board of the Workers Compensation Research Institute and has served on the board of directors of the National Council on Compensation Insurance.

Western Security Surplus Insurance Brokers Inc.has announced that Barbara Carey has been promoted to vice president/manager of the Roseville, Calif. office. Carey has been with the Western Security Surplus Northern California office for almost three years. Prior to joining WSS, she worked for 15 years as Crop Insurance Sales Manager at Cal-Ag Insurance Services and spent another five years at the same organization as a surplus lines broker.

Affinity Group Administrators has appointed Phil Pierson to its Southern California operations based in Folsom, Calif. Pierson brings more than 23 years of risk management, insurance and risk financing experience, including positions in underwriting management, risk management for a Fortune 50 company. He also has developed and managed affinity group programs as an insurance broker. His expertise includes managing and underwriting risk with a focus on non-traditional risk financing methods, such as self-insurance plans, risk retention groups and self financing insurance plans including captives and high-deductible programs.

Burns & Wilcox has appointed Sandy Sherman as an underwriter for the company’s New Mexico office. As a commercial underwriter, Sherman will be responsible for the underwriting and marketing the new service center that will operate in collaboration with the Scottsdale, Ariz., operations under the direction of Vice President/ Branch Manager Michael Maharaj. Sherman spent seven years as senior commercial underwriter with Nautilus Insurance Co.

Burns & Wilcox Ltd. has named Imelda Tolentino underwriter/broker for its Los Angeles operations based in Woodland Hills, Calif. She is charged with new and renewal production and relationship development to commercial lines agents and brokers. Imelda joins Burns & Wilcox with 18 years of insurance industry experience in both underwriting and brokerage operations in Los Angeles.

Nancy Cordero has been promoted from underwriter to marketing representative at San Diego-based Reliant General Insurance Services. Cordero’s responsibilities will include managing and providing training and marketing to a select group of brokers throughout the state of California, as well as local field visits in San Diego. She will also handle in-house broker base management and field rep support. Cordero started at Reliant General in administration and has since held positions in customer service and underwriting.

Dawn Huff has also joined as a marketing representative. Her responsibilities include managing, marketing and providing training to the Northern California broker base. Huff has 18 years experience in personal lines.

Marleen L. Francis has joined Baldwin Resource Group in Bellevue., Wash., as Client Services Manager and Carrier Liaison. Previously, Francis worked as Excess & Surplus Lines/Large Construction Manager for The Leavitt Group in Utah. Francis has worked in the insurance industry for 28 years and previously was a senior account manager for Willis Corroon in Seattle.

SEER Insurance Inspections Inc. has announced that Gary Lee is marketing area manager. He will be responsible for client development and service for 11 Western states. He has 30 years of industry experience as and agent and commercial underwriter.
