N.Y.-based private equity firm KKR & Co. hired former Willis Group Holdings CEO Joseph Plumeri as a senior adviser. In his new role, Plumeri will help find and evaluate potential investments and work with KKR’s portfolio companies. Plumeri, 70, stepped down as CEO of Willis in January after 12 years at the helm. He continued to serve as Willis’ non-executive chairman until this past July.

American International Group named Kevin Hogan as chief executive officer of AIG Global Consumer Insurance. Hogan, who previously had a 24-year career at AIG, is expected to rejoin AIG in early October. He was most recently CEO of Global Life, Zurich Insurance Group, and was a member of the Zurich Executive Committee.

Hogan will become a member of the AIG Executive Group and will report to Peter Hancock, CEO of AIG Property Casualty.

At the same time, AIG’s global life insurance manufacturing will become part of AIG Global Consumer Insurance. AIG Life and Retirement, under the leadership of Jay Wintrob, president and CEO, will continue to be responsible for AIG’s retirement business, as well as the distribution of all the company’s U.S. life and retirement products.

Barbara Flanigan, a 30-year insurance industry veteran, has been named CEO of Applied Systems Client Network (ASCnet), the user group of Applied Systems technology.

Flanigan joins ASCnet from Gallagher Bassett Services, where she was vice president of carrier practice. Prior to that, she held a variety of posts at CNA Insurance, where she was the company’s representative on the Agents Council for Technology (ACT), part of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA); and the ACORD-Users Group Information Exchange (AUGIE) — two groups in which ASCnet leaders are engaged.

Liberty Mutual’s Commercial Insurance strategic business unit appointed Mike Martin as executive vice president and general manager, National Insurance Property.

Martin will lead a unit that provides property insurance, inland marine and equipment breakdown products to mid- and large-sized accounts through brokers. He started in property engineering and underwriting at Industrial Risk Insurance. Before joining Liberty Mutual, he handled risk transfer and loss prevention as North America chief property underwriter for XL insurance.

The Insurance Society of Philadelphia recently announced the appointment of Russell Shaner as its new president. He succeeds David Arnold who has left the organization for another position. With 35 years of experience in the insurance industry, Shaner most recently served as regional claims director for AAA NCNU Insurance Exchange (the successor organization to AAA Mid-Atlantic Insurance Group).

Cooper Gay Re North America appointed Norman Gayle as managing director. He joins the executive team working from the head office in New York. With over 35 years of insurance and reinsurance experience, Gayle has held a number of senior management positions within the industry. He was previously with Arch Insurance Group before joining Cooper Gay Re North America.

Jeffrey Grange has been appointed head of Management Liability and Professional Lines for New York-based QBE North America, which plans to launch a directors and officers (D&O) liability division. He joins QBE from the Torus Group, where he served as the chairman of the Torus’ Group Underwriting Committee, managing the insurance risk of the company, and was the Global Practice Leader for Management Liability and Professional Lines.
