Gregory V. Serio has been confirmed as Superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department. Serio had been Acting Superintendent and has served that role since early April.
Confirmed by the State Senate, New York Gov. George Pataki nominated Serio for the position April 10.
Serio was appointed First Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel for New York’s Insurance Department in early 1995. Previous to becoming a member of the Department, Serio worked as Chief Counsel to the Senate Standing Committee on Insurance. He also was Counsel to the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Counsel to the Senate’s Deputy Majority Leader.
