A study by the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) has singled out the State of Connecticut’s handling of benefits to injured workers as particularly efficient in comparison with other state programs.
The findings revealed that Conn.’s. $927 average cost of delivering benefits was considerably lower than other states in the study. It also pays an average of $750 to defense attorneys compared to the $2500 average in California and Florida. Close to 50 percent of injured workers receive their first payment within 21 days of injury, close to the 51 percent average in the states studied.
The study, which also included data from Georgia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin, concluded that Conn.’s workers compensation costs were lower to average in comparison with other states, and that it has one of the shortest durations of temporary disability (‘9 weeks) of the eight states, nearly one-half the average duration (14-15) weeks in California, Florida and Texas.
