MapInfo Joins ACORD

August 28, 2002

MapInfo Corporation of Troy, N.Y. announced it has joined the Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development (ACORD) to ensure its location-based intelligence solutions, used by insurance carriers for enhanced risk assessment, sales force automation and call center support, will comply with all the industry’s current and future technology standards.

As part of ACORD, MapInfo will be at the forefront of geographic technology concerns in the insurance industry by contributing to ACORD’s XML standards for location sensitive data. Many of the nation’s leading insurance companies already use MapInfo’s software and services, including Royal & SunAlliance, The Hartford, Allstate and State Farm. MapInfo also has partnerships with many of the leading technology suppliers to the insurance industry, including Siebel, Sun, IBM and Risk Management Solutions (RMS).

MapInfo’s products help insurance carriers visualize policy density and identify where they are most exposed in case of a catastrophic event. MapInfo addresses immediate concerns by helping property and casualty insurers to measure current exposure based on the density of policies and proximity to risks and mitigate exposure across all operating units and entire portfolios. The ability to map out policy data enables insurers to test different catastrophic scenarios and then plan for possible outcomes.
