Rhode Island’s biggest workers compensation writer, Beacon Mutual Insurance Co., has named Robert G. DeOrsey as vice president of underwriting and loss prevention.
As vice president of underwriting and loss prevention, DeOrsey will oversee the daily operations of both departments and a total staff of 53.
The former underwriting and loss prevention executive for the firm, David Clark, was indicted last year as part of a state grand jury investigation into questionable business practices at the company. He pleaded not guilty.
DeOrsey, who most recently worked for the W.T. Phelan Insurance Agency, brings 22 years of industry experience in underwriting and loss prevention to Beacon.
Since 2004, DeOrsey oversaw the Belmont, Mass. office of the W.T. Phelan Insurance Agency, where he directed a staff of 13. As office manager, DeOrsey was responsible for daily operations of the commercial lines department.
DeOrsey also worked for the CNA Insurance Group as an underwriting director from 2001 to 2004. Previously, he served as vice president of CGU Insurance Co.’s Rhode Island branch from 1997 to 2001.
