Allianz Commercial announced plans to launch a new direct underwriting syndicate at Lloyd’s — Allianz Commercial Syndicate 1893 — which is expected to begin trading from Jan. 1, 2027.
The new syndicate will give Allianz Commercial greater access to specialty, facilities and selected MGA business at Lloyd’s. The syndicate will be managed by Polo Managing Agency Ltd., the independent turnkey managing agent and a unit of PoloWorks.
“The new syndicate will establish a long-term direct underwriting presence for Allianz Commercial in one of the world’s leading specialty markets,” commented Thomas Lillelund, CEO of Allianz Commercial, in a statement. “It will expand our access to specialist business and strengthen our ability to serve clients and brokers facing increasingly complex and international risks.”
Allianz Commercial Syndicate 1893 is named after the year that Allianz took its first international step, with a London office in 1893, after its founding in Berlin in 1890.
Lloyd’s has already provided in-principle approval for the syndicate, which is subject to final regulatory approval.
A unit of Allianz Group, Allianz Commercial specializes in the insurance of mid-sized businesses, large enterprises and specialist risks.
