Seven people have been indicted in Essex County (Massachusetts) for allegedly conspiring to stage automobile accidents to collect insurance payments.
A grand jury returned the indictments last Friday against two attorneys, two chiropractors and three others.
They’re accused of faking four accidents in late 2002 and early 2003 in the Lawrence area. The state attorney general’s office alleges the attorneys and chiropractors employed the three men to stage accidents.
Prosecutors say the men then were directed to the chiropractors and attorneys for unnecessary medical treatment and legal representation.
Arraignment dates for the defendants haven’t been scheduled. State officials were joined in the investigation by Lawrence police.
