AAA Will Not Perform Registry Functions in Massachusetts

June 19, 2009

AAA will not be allowed to perform some of the transactions of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles after a provision that would have allowed the change was knocked out of the Bay State’s budget last night, according to the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents.

The provision that would have allowed the practice had been a major source of tension for independent agents in the state, since AAA would have been selling insurance products out of the same locations where it performed registry services.

In a release to members, the trade group said it was a “victory” for its member agencies. “Our lobbying efforts paid off. This is just another example of what ‘grassroots lobbying’ can do when members get involved in the legislative process.”
