A New Jersey jury has awarded $7.2 million to a doctor who sued the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey after she fell and broke her elbow at a North Jersey rail station.
Lawyers for Soma Mandal of Jersey City said Thursday that Mandal’s injury cost her full use of her right arm and she had to stop working at New York’s NYU Medical Center, where she was an attending physician.
The jury award includes $3 million for pain and suffering and $4 million for future lost earnings.
Port Authority spokesman Ron Marsico declined comment on the verdict and whether the agency will appeal it.
Mandal was injured in March 2007 when she slipped on a rubber mat on a walkway in the Newport-Pavonia PATH station.
