The Hanover says it will offer Massachusetts drivers a discount on a special course in crash prevention skills and safe-driver techniques.
The program, run by In Control Crash Prevention Training, is the only one of its kind certified by the state of Massachusetts and has been shown to reduce crashes by 70 percent among participating drivers, The Hanover said.
“This intense and highly-effective training will benefit our policyholders and help make our Massachusetts roads safer for everyone,” said Edward C. Ruhl, regional vice president at The Hanover Insurance Group.
The Hanover’s customers who participate and their family members, will receive a $100 discount off the regular price of $299.
The four-and-a-half-hour program, which is taught on a closed course, allows participants to safely experience highway speed emergency maneuvers that many seasoned drivers are often not prepared to handle. Participants learn techniques for defensive driving, steering and speed control, emergency lane changes, emergency braking (including ABS), dealing with tailgating, increasing spatial awareness and backing up skills, driving in hazardous conditions, rapid decision making, and dealing with distractions including text messaging.
