October 27, 2011

Harrisburg, Penn.-based health insurer Capital BlueCross is now offering insurance for the four-legged pals.

The company said it is teaming up with Philadelphia-based pet insurance provider PetPlan to offer pet health insurance for central Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley pet owners. It covers unexpected veterinary bills due to accidents, illness or injury.

Capital BlueCross is offering the program, managed by PetPlan, as a voluntary benefit for participating employers and individuals. The company says pet health insurance is a fast-growing market, with many pet owners willing to open their wallets for their beloved furry friends.

The company said it’s the first BlueCross affiliate to offer pet health insurance. The company offers instant quotes for premiums with an online quote calculator on its website.

The dog and cat insurance plans provide full coverage for hereditary and congenital conditions as well as protection against any unforeseen accidents, according to the insurer. The coverage includes veterinary office visits and diagnostic testing to surgery and rehabilitation.
