The MEMIC Group, a workers’ compensation insurer headquartered in Portland, Maine, promoted Jeff Funk to the position of assistant vice president.
MEMIC said Funk played an integral role in MEMIC’s expansion in southern New England and New York. In his new role, he will continue developing business in New England and throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
Funk joined MEMIC in 2006 as an executive underwriter. He has 28 years of property/casualty insurance experience in both the insurance company and independent agency business.
His technical background lies in commercial underwriting where he has held positions in underwriting and general management. He has also worked in the sales management and marketing areas of the independent agency industry.
The MEMIC Group is the fifth largest underwriter of workers’ comp business in New England and is among the fastest growing in New York. Specializing in workers’ comp insurance, MEMIC insures more than 18,000 employers and their estimated 200,000 employees.
Based in the Northeast, MEMIC is the leading workers’ comp insurer in Maine through Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company. The company is headquartered in Portland, Maine, and also has offices in Manchester, N.H., Glastonbury, Conn., and Albany, N.Y.
Last month, the MEMIC Group acquired a Vermont-based Granite Manufacturers Mutual Insurance Company. The insurer also said it plans to expand its operations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in 2012.
