Home improvement contractors, used cars, insurance claims and foreclosure scams were among the top consumer complaints lodged by Massachusetts residents in 2011.
Several state and federal agencies gathered Tuesday to release their lists of the top five consumer gripes of 2011.
Insurance complaints of all types — automobile, health and home — made the list from the state consumer affairs division. Officials noted that the destruction caused by the June 1 tornadoes in western Massachusetts caused a spike in consumer concerns about home insurance policies.
Problems with home improvement contractors and the state’s lemon law for used cars — all perennial consumer complaints — again made the state’s top five categories.
Loan modification scams related to foreclosure proceedings were the number one complaint received by the state attorney general’s office.
The list of top consumer complaints can be found at the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs’ website.
