A news report says an Augusta, Maine, construction company has been cited for violations and fined in the death of an employee after a house collapsed.
Morning Sentinel reports that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Kennebec Home Improvements $9,240. An OSHA official says the company has until Aug. 31 to appeal.
Police said 52-year-old Robert Rodriguez of Augusta was killed May 15 and the company owner was injured when a seasonal lakefront home collapsed during repairs in Albion. The camp dropped onto the two men after they jacked up the structure to install new supports underneath. The fire department’s jaws of life were used to lift the building off the men.
A lawyer for Kennebec owner Linwood Stover says they will decide soon whether to contest the findings.
