Liberty Mutual Insurance recently announced S. Colin Dowling will lead the company’s public affairs office in Washington, D.C., as vice president for federal affairs.
Dowling brings extensive public affairs experience to Liberty Mutual, having held senior management positions at Travelers, where he served as a senior federal lobbyist, and most recently at Citigroup where, as managing director, he ran a large state and local government affairs program.
Liberty Mutual said that, at a time of increasing convergence of state, federal and international policy initiatives, Dowling’s broad experience at both the state and federal levels and across the insurance and banking sectors makes him an ideal person to lead the insurer’s public affairs effort in Washington, D.C.
Founded in 1912, Boston-based Liberty Mutual is a diversified global insurer and the third-largest property/casualty insurer in the U.S. based on 2012 direct premiums written as reported by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. As of Dec. 31, 2012, Liberty Mutual had $120.1 billion in consolidated assets, $101.5 billion in consolidated liabilities, and $36.9 billion in annual consolidated revenue.
