Millers Mutual, a regional commercial property/casualty insurer based in Harrisburg, Penn., named Scott A. Orndorff as president and chief executive officer. Orndorff succeeds Bob Lyon who left Millers Mutual to pursue other interests after leading the company for the past 20 years.
Orndorff previously served as an executive at Westfield Insurance Co., where he provided strategic and operational leadership for a specialty division focused on workers compensation, agribusiness and transportation. His experience also includes serving as chief operating officer for Old Guard Insurance, a Pennsylvania-based mutual insurer, where he was responsible for all aspects of the insurance operation including underwriting, claims, risk control, information systems, marketing and customer service.
Founded in 1890, Millers Mutual serves commercial policyholders in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., through a network of 300 independent agency partners. Its products include business owners policies (BOP), commercial package policies (CPP), commercial automobile, workers compensation, inland marine, excess liability/umbrella and employment practices liability. For the full-year 2012, the company had recorded $58.8 million in direct written premium, a 91.9 percent combined ratio and $5.3 million net income.
