Massachusetts Officials: Revamped Healthcare Website Working as Hoped

November 26, 2014

Nearly 52,000 individuals in Massachusetts have been found eligible for insurance plans that comply with the federal Affordable Care Act during the first seven days of the open enrollment period for 2015.

Of those, about 24,000 were immediately enrolled in MassHealth, the state’s Medicaid program.

The remaining 28,000 were found eligible for Health Connector-sponsored plans. Just over half have selected their plans while more than 700 have finished the process by paying their first bill five weeks ahead of the Dec. 23 deadline for coverage beginning Jan. 1.

Officials say the revamped Massachusetts Health Insurance Exchange website has attracted more than 334,000 visitors in its first full week.

The rollout is a sharp contrast to a year ago, when a failed website forced the state to place hundreds of thousands into temporary Medicaid coverage.
