Delaware State Police say a woman who claimed to be the victim of a carjacking set up by an intentional crash has turned herself in to face criminal charges.
Thirty-year-old Jane Macauley of Middletown, Del., surrendered to state police on Tuesday and was charged with insurance fraud and falsely reporting an incident. She was released on $2,000 unsecured bail.
Macauley reported in April that her car had been rammed by another vehicle on Route 71 in Bear, Del. She said that after she and the other driver pulled over, the other driver got in her car and drove off, while a passenger in the striking vehicle moved to the driver’s seat and drove off in that car.
Police say Macauley falsely reported the incident in order to make a fraudulent insurance claim.
