A construction crew repairing a water line accidentally struck a gas main in western Pennsylvania, sparking a fire that injured one worker.
The blast in Bethel Park occurred around 2 a.m. Wednesday and burned for about two hours before the gas was shut off. The injured worker was being treated at a hospital for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
One home was briefly evacuated, while several other residents were told to stay inside their homes for a few hours.
Repairs to the damaged main were ongoing. It wasn’t clear how many customers were without gas service due to the fire.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
