Coterie Insurance Expands Small Business Offerings to Massachusetts

March 30, 2022

Coterie Insurance, a small business insurtech, announced that its general liability and business owners insurance products are now available in Massachusetts for customers and agencies.

Independent agents and brokers writing micro and small businesses in Massachusetts can add Coterie to their websites to quote and issue insurance policies in minutes through the Coterie Insurance Dashboard. Small businesses can also buy direct through the interface.

According to the digital agency, the expansion into the Bay State marks the 49th state, in addition to the District of Columbia, where it is open for business. According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses account for 99.5% of all businesses in Massachusetts.

Pete Buccola, vice president at Coterie Insurance, said the dashboard offers a qualification checker that indicates within seconds if a business is within the Coterie appetite.

Coterie designs its insurance products that are underwritten by Spinnaker Insurance Co. and Benchmark Insurance Co.

Last October, Ohio-based Coterie completed a $50 million financing round, bringing the total it has raised since starting up in 2018 to $75 million.

The round was led by Weatherford Capital alongside existing investors RPM Ventures, Intact Ventures, Group 1001 and Alpha Edison. Other Coterie backers include The Hartford, Western & Southern Financial Group and Allos Ventures.
