New York Yankee Uniform Sleeve Gets the Starr Treatment

July 14, 2023

On July 21, when the New York Yankees open their first homestand after the All Star break, the players’ famous uniforms will look a bit different. They will sport a Starr Insurance logo on the sleeve.

The insurer’s jersey patch is a first for the Yankees, although about a dozen other Major League Baseball teams already have sponsors on their uniforms.

The marketing move is part of the expanded relationship between the team and the insurer. Starr will also continue as the Official Commercial Insurance Company of the New York Yankees. Starr signage will be placed on the Yankee Stadium outfield wall in front of both the home and visiting team bullpens, complementing Starr’s existing billboard signage above the right-field bleachers. Starr will also become the Official Presenting Sponsor of the Yankees’ game-day lineup post on social media and will work with the New York Yankees Foundation on community initiatives in the New York metropolitan area.

“Starr and the Yankees, one of the world’s most widely recognized professional sports teams, share important values — including a commitment not just to teamwork and winning, but to excellence in how we do business and serve a broad range of constituencies,” said Maurice R. Greenberg, Starr chairman and chief executive officer. “We’re proud of the unique partnership we have forged over the past five years and have now deepened for many years to come.”

The company did not reveal the cost of the sponsorship.

Starr Insurance is a marketing name for the operating insurance and travel assistance companies and subsidiaries of Starr International Co., Inc. and for the investment business of C. V. Starr & Co., Inc. and its subsidiaries.
