A Rhode Island husband and wife were killed and another person injured Monday morning when a small plane crashed onto a highway in southeastern Massachusetts.
The deceased were identified as Thomas and Agatha Perkins, of Middletown, according to Thomas Quinn, district attorney for Bristol County in Massachusetts.
The injured person was taken to the hospital. A vehicle in the median strip on the highway appeared to have been hit.
The crash forced the closing of I-195 in Dartmouth, Mass. in both directions.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it will investigate the accident. Preliminary reports indicated that the plane left from New Bedford Regional Airport in Massachusetts and may have been attempting to return there when it crashed and the caught fire.
