AM Best Revises Outlooks to Positive for AmTrust Group Insurers

October 15, 2026

AM Best has revised the outlooks to positive from stable for the members of the New York-based AmTrust Group.

The ratings firm also affirmed the Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Ratings (Long-Term ICR) of “a-” (Excellent) of the more than 20 AmTrust Group member companies.

AM Best said the ratings of AmTrust reflect its balance sheet strength, which AM Best said it assesses as “very strong,” as well as its “adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management (ERM).”

The revision of AmTrust’s outlooks to positive reflects its market-leading position in the U.S. workers’ compensation segment, with the group being the third largest writer based on its 6% market share, according to the rating analysts.

“AmTrust has 25 years of workers’ compensation experience and has focused on providing coverage to small businesses throughout the United States,” AM Best’s announcement stated. “AmTrust has developed underwriting expertise built around proprietary data, predictive modeling and more recently AI capabilities to drive targeted profitable results. AmTrust has a deep distribution network that is supporting high policy retention and profitable growth.”

AM Best added that the company also benefits from its geographic and product diversification. In addition to workers’ compensation, the company offers specialty property/casualty insurance products, including businessowners policy, general liability, title, legal expense, medical malpractice, and extended service and warranty coverage.

The positive outlook considers AM Best’s expectation that AmTrust Group will “continue to strengthen its position in the workers’ compensation market as well as expanding in other segments, while steadily growing surplus through organic growth,” AM Best said.

AmTrust’s balance sheet strength metrics showed improvement with risk-adjusted capitalization at the strongest level at mid-year 2026, as measured by Best Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR).
