CIGNA International announced a cooperation agreement with global medical management and security assistance provider International SOS to provide expatriate employees and their families instant access to a unique new service that features an expanded global network of physicians and care facilities accessible by Internet and available in-person around the world.

A CIGNA announcement stated that the service, which will be offered beginning this month, is the “first service of its kind to marry “online” and “on-call” capabilities with an easy-to-access Web database of physician-screened global health care resources that will provide greater peace of mind for employers and their employees working outside their home countries.” It will expand CIGNA’s International Expatriate Benefits organization, established in 1977, to nearly 5,500 physicians and hospital facilities outside the United States. The full online service will be rolled out over the course of 2002.

Arnaud Vaissie, president, CEO and cofounder of International SOS stated that his organization’s main goal was “to provide expatriates access to world class standards of medical service and care around the globe.” SOS is already well established, and the agreement with CIGNA will facilitate further expansion. “By working with CIGNA to make these services available online, we’re helping employees feel more at home while they’re away from home. It will also help sponsoring companies achieve greater success when placing people in vital international assignments,” said Vaissie
