June 23, 2004

Zurich Financial Services announced the promotion of Martin Clark to head of its Global Energy Unit in London and Nick Hodges to the position of international energy property director in its Zurich Global Energy(R) business unit.

Zurich described its Global Energy Unit as “a leading provider of risk management solutions for oil and gas, petrochemicals, natural resources, mining and power operations worldwide,” and noted that the “London operation handles business produced by the London broker community.”

Clark will be responsible for the development of new business opportunities, customer segmentation strategies and cross marketing within Zurich Global Energy, as well as other Zurich business units. He previously served as claims manager for Zurich Global Energy London, and will continue to manage the claims function in the U.K. He will report to Herman Nieuwenhuizen, chief marketing officer and manager of branch operations and Neil Lightbown, director of underwriting and manufacturing.

Clark has over 17 years of property-casualty experience. He began his career at Lloyds and has since held a variety of claims positions in both broker and company environments. He joined Zurich Global Energy in January 2002 as an onshore property claims manager. In his new role, Clark replaces Jane Hayes who was recently appointed head of corporate underwriting for Zurich London.

“As international energy property director, Nick Hodges will assume underwriting management responsibility for Continental Europe, in addition to management of the onshore property business written by the Zurich Global Energy London office. In this capacity, he will be involved in strategic development and customer support initiatives,” said the announcement.

“Hodges will also be responsible for sustaining profitable growth and maintaining underwriting integrity for the onshore property business in this region. He will be reporting to Bob Pulka, senior vice president, onshore property and Martin Clark, head of Global Energy London,” it continued

He was formerly a senior underwriting specialist responsible for onshore property business written by the London office. Hodges started in the industry with Legal and General in 1979, and subsequently held senior level positions at AFIA/CIGNA and Gerling. He holds a B.A. Hons. from St. John’s College, Oxford, and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

“The London market is a critical area for Zurich Global Energy,” stated J. Peter Connors, president and CEO of Zurich Global Energy. “Martin and Nick have been key members of the London management team, and that office will continue to benefit from their leadership and experience.”
