Bermuda-based AXIS Capital Holdings Limited announced that Richard T. Gieryn, Jr., currently General Counsel of AXIS U.S. Holdings, Inc., has been promoted to General Counsel.
In his current position he serves as chief legal counsel for AXIS Capital’s global underwriting and claims operations. As General Counsel of AXIS Capital he will “now oversee all legal matters at the company, reporting directly to AXIS Capital CEO and President John Charman,” said the bulletin.
Gieryn joined AXIS Capital from Combined Specialty Group, Inc. in January 2003. He has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to taking his position at AXIS Capital, Gieryn held general counsel positions at Combined Specialty Group, Inc., ACE INA, ACE USA and Westchester Specialty Group. He began his career at Drew, Eckl & Farnham where he became an equity partner.
Commenting on the appointment, Charman stated: “Since Rick joined AXIS Capital in early 2003, he has played a key role in developing our global underwriting platforms and, in doing so, has earned the respect and confidence of our management team. Rick brings to the general counsel position extensive experience in the fields of general corporate law, insurance regulation, underwriting support and insurance litigation in the global insurance and reinsurance industry. We are proud to have him in a position of leadership with the company.”
