Catlin Names King and Newman to London Posts

The Bermuda-based Catlin Group Limited announced that Chris King and Matthew Newman have been appointed as business group leaders for Catlin s underwriting operations in London.

King will lead Catlin s War and Political Risk Business Group, which includes the Credit, Terrorism, Crisis Management and Political Risk classes of business.

Newman will lead the Casualty Business Group, which includes the General Liability, Marine Liability, Medical Malpractice and the US Professional Liability/Errors & Omissions business classes.

Paul Brand, Catlin’s chief underwriting officer, commented: “I am extremely pleased to announce the promotion of Chris King and Matt Newman to business group leaders at Catlin in London, which includes the Catlin Syndicate, the largest at Lloyd s.” He stated the two men would “play a integral role” in further developing the Group’s business operations.

King was most recently a senior underwriter at Catlin in London. He joined Catlin in January 1998 as an underwriting assistant and was promoted to class underwriter for the war and political risk account in 2003. He previously worked in Lloyd s Regulatory Division.

Newman was most recently deputy leader of the Casualty Business Group. He joined Catlin in 2003 as a class underwriter for the non-marine liability account. He previously worked as a broker with Sedgwick Group and as an underwriter with the Cotesworth/HIH and AEGIS syndicates at Lloyd s.
