Lloyd’s has selected Hank Watkins as the new President for North America. He takes over from LoriAnn Lowery who resigned from the position last June after a little more than a year on the job [See IJ web site – https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/international/2009/07/01/101876.htm].
She took over as Lloyd’s North American president in April, 2008, replacing long-time president Wendy Baker in the position.
Watkins will be based in New York and will take up his new role on August 31. He assumes responsibility for all Lloyd’s operations in the US and Canada, including offices in New York, Kentucky, Illinois, Los Angeles, Virgin Islands and Montreal.
Watkins has held a range of positions in both the U.S and Europe at global insurers and brokers, including Chubb & Son; Barney & Barney; Johnson & Higgins; Hilb Rogal & Hobbs and Marsh.
Sue Langley, Lloyd’s Director of Market Operations and North America, welcomed Watkins to Lloyd’s, indicating that his “28 years experience in the insurance industry, as both an underwriter and broker,” have enabled him to understand “the opportunities and challenges that the industry faces in today’s global marketplace.”
She added that Watkins “unique experience, fresh approach to the Lloyd’s market and mix of skills will be invaluable as we seek to develop our presence and brand in the US and Canada over the coming years.”
