Markel International, the specialty property and casualty insurer, announced that it has strengthened its retail division, Markel (UK) Limited, with two senior appointments. Dave Robson and Graham Morse have been appointed as development underwriters specializing in social welfare. Robson will concentrate on the north east. Morse will be developing business along the south coast of England.
“Both underwriters previously worked for Ecclesiastical Insurance and have many years’ experience of business development,” said the announcement. “Prior to their roles at Ecclesiastical, both worked in sales and senior underwriting roles with a variety of insurers.
Steve Carroll, managing director of Markel (UK) Limited, explained: “To service the needs of our brokers we sought people with experience and gravitas to extend our distribution reach. Our social welfare business is growing rapidly and our policy of employing capable underwriters who are empowered to make decisions at the front line is paying dividends.
