Industrial Insurance Company HDI-Gerling announced the appointment of Mark Appleton to the position of liability underwriting director for the UK and Ireland. He joins HDI-Gerling from RSA where he was European casualty director.
Previously he held senior positions at Chubb and CNA and “brings with him a wealth of experience in the UK and global insurance markets,” with “over 20 years liability underwriting experience specializing in complex risk-managed business,” said the announcement.
Appleton will be responsible for the UK and Ireland liability portfolio with a focus on developing and managing the liability business in HDI-Gerling’s Major and Global division. He reports directly to David Ball, director, Major and Global Risks and also Richard Taylor, managing director for the UK and Ireland.
HDI-Gerling is the international industrial insurance arm of Talanx A.G., Germany’s 3rd largest insurance group. It is the 11th largest insurance provider in Europe by premium income, with a global network spanning some 128 territories. With its Life, Pensions and Reinsurance operations, including Hannover Re, Talanx A.G. wrote an annual premium income in excess of €20 billion [$29.34 billion] in 2009.
