Specialist engineering and construction insurer HSB Engineering Insurance Limited has appointed Andy Kane as chief underwriting officer. He has over 20 years experience, and replaces Tom Howe who recently retired as CUO after more than 30 years service.
Kane is based in London and reports to CEO Stephanie Watkins. He will manage the underwriting functions of HSB Engineering Insurance Limited “focusing on the strategic leadership of HSB’s international development and enhancing its relationships with the London market and global brokers,” said the bulletin.
Kane will take over responsibility for underwriting performance and will provide technical leadership in developing the systems, processes and people to support HSB’s growth strategy in its chosen markets.
He was previously chief underwriter for the UK branch of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co (Europe), responsible for managing all lines of business for its global Japanese clients in the UK, Ireland, Nordic Territories and Southern Africa.
His industry and management experience also includes the start up and launch of Mitsui Sumitomo’s construction business out of its Lloyd’s Syndicate in 2003, building a recognised market-leading team for UK and International major clients. Prior to this Andy was the London manager for RSA Engineering.
