Global specialty insurer Torus announced that Jaap Gispen has been appointed Branch Manager in Rotterdam, to lead the company’s Netherlands-based operations, subject to regulatory approval.
He will report to Demian Smith, Chief Executive of Torus’ International Region and Richard Etridge, Chief Operating Officer, Continental Europe, effective June 16, 2014.
Torus said that, “in addition to overseeing operations within the Dutch market,” he will also be “responsible for servicing and growing Torus’ current Dutch-based Marine and MPL portfolios while also continuing Torus’ efforts to attract high caliber underwriting professionals to Torus in the Netherlands.
Smith described Gispen’s appointment as “key;” noting that the “experience and expertise that he brings to the table will add tremendous value as we look to further expand our physical presence and book of Marine and MPL business within the Dutch market.”
Gispen has more than 20 years of industry experience serving the Dutch Marine market and building specialized Marine portfolios. He joins Torus from Marsh Netherlands. He has also held Marine and management roles at Amlin Corporate Insurance, Concordia Holland and UAP-NieuwRotterdam Schade NV.
