UK-Based Towergate Names Barnard as Chief Transformation & Change Director

February 18, 2016

Towergate has announced the appointment of James Barnard as chief transformation and change director.

Barnard will play a key role in driving the change programs needed to transform Towergate, the Maidstone, England-based independently owned insurance intermediary, which has been restructuring its business over the past several years.

Barnard will report to Adrian Brown, CEO of underwriting and chief operating officer.

He joins Towergate from Aviva, where he was IT integration director, reporting to the group executive and leading the integration and transformation of Friends Life IT into Aviva.

Barnard had been with Aviva for more than 16 years, holding many senior roles including Ireland transformation director and shared service director.

He has a proven background in driving change execution and a real mix of skills in IT, change and business transformation, Towergate said in a statement.

Barnard commented: “Joining Towergate at this time, to be part of the leadership team and to take the business forward is an opportunity I couldn’t resist. The scope and ambition fits with my ambition and values; moving to Towergate was an easy decision. I wanted to be part of something big and truly transformational and without doubt, this is the most exciting opportunity in the UK insurance market.”

Brown added, “We are continuing to build a high caliber team, and I believe James is the perfect person to work alongside myself and the executive to ensure the successful delivery of our change agenda. Attracting somebody of James’ caliber positions us well to execute on our various change programs.”
