Markel International, the specialist insurance subsidiary of Markel Corp., has appointed David A. Crozier to be president of Markel Canada, its business which operates across the country, with offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
Crozier will take up his position at the beginning of 2019 and is expected to join Markel in the middle of this year.
His appointment follows the retirement of Karen Barkley at the end of the year. Completing a 40-year career in the insurance industry, Barkley has held positions at Zurich, AIG, CIGNA, president of ACE INA Insurance, and a past chair of the Insurance Institute of Canada.
Crozier joins Markel from Everest Insurance Co. of Canada, where he was president and chief executive officer, having previously been senior vice president, operations, for Economical Mutual Insurance Co. Prior to that, he held a number of positions at Chubb Insurance Co. of Canada, latterly as vice president, Prairies.
Reporting to Simon Wilson, managing director, national markets, Crozier will be responsible for the strategic direction and development of Markel’s Canadian business.
