People Moves: Newland Joins Miller as Head of Renewable Energy; Aon’s McKenzie to BMS in Australia; Dasgupta to Lockton Re

This group of International People Moves covers appointments at three brokers: Miller, BMS and Lockton Re.

Miller, the London-based independent specialist re/insurance broker, announced the appointment of Rhys Newland as head of Renewable Energy and Environmental Technology. Newland commenced his role on July 1, reporting to Martin Henderson, head of Energy.

The newly created position signals Miller’s commitment to the fast-moving renewable energy sector as it continues to make high profile appointments across its key specialist areas.

Newland brings over 25 years of environmental risk experience to Miller, including expertise across PFI/PPP and nationally significant infrastructure projects. He joins Miller from Willis Ltd. where, most recently, he held the position of head of Infrastructure, specializing in environmental infrastructure. Prior to joining Willis in 1998, he worked as an environmental consultant where he undertook work for major projects including the World Bank and EBRD.

Newland has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from Lancaster University and is a Chartered Environmentalist.

BMS, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, announced the appointment of Andrew McKenzie as Northern Region manager of financial lines in Australia, effective Sept. 1, 2021. Based in Brisbane, McKenzie will report to Stuart Davies, head of financial lines at BMS Australia.

McKenzie joins BMS in Australia from his most recent role as director of Specialties at Aon, where he also led Aon’s Financial Services Group (FSG). With more than 25 years’ experience in the insurance sector, McKenzie brings to BMS in Australia a wealth of industry experience and a deep understanding of the risks facing financial institutions, professional service providers and the boardrooms of corporate Australia. Prior to McKenzie’s 19 years at Aon, he was the specialty insurance lines leader at Marsh for eight years.

In addition to specializing in the traditional financial lines and professional insurance classes, McKenzie is heavily focused on providing solutions and products for emerging global risks such as cyber and workplace health and safety to protect organizations, their executives and most importantly, their people.

Lockton Re, the reinsurance business of the world’s largest privately held independent insurance broker, announced that Showvanik Dasgupta has joined as a senior broker in its International P&C division in London.

Showvanik Dasgupta

Showvanik is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries with experience across the insurance market, having spent time at Beach Re, Tokio Millennium Re and Aspen Re where he started his career in 2006. Most recently, he was with Dynamo Analytics where he worked as Nordic lead consultant, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Showvanik will be focused on long tail and multiline creative solutions working with our established international P&C business as well as driving new opportunities,” said Carla Moffett, head of International P&C, Lockton Re.
