After being denounced by current Kansas insurance commissioner, Kathleen Sebelius, for allegedly soliciting campaign donations from insurance companies, a Republican candidate in the commissioner’s race, John McCarvel, quit his job at the state Department of Insurance.
According to the Kansas City Star, McCarvel had been with the agency for 2 1/2 years, working as an admissions coordinator for companies seeking to do business in Kansas.
Sebelius, a Democrat who’s running for governor of Kansas, reportedly only recently found out about McCarvel’s actions. Department officials have acknowledged one instance they were aware of in which McCarvel reportedly solicited donations from a company he worked with in an official capacity. McCarvel has allegedly admitted soliciting several others.
McCarvel’s resignation sidelined a planned investigation by department officials.
