State Auto Wins ACORD Awards

June 24, 2004

For the third consecutive year, and the fourth time in seven years, the Columbus, Ohio-based State Auto Insurance Co. took top honors at the annual ACORD (Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development) convention, winning the award for Upload Company of the Year. The award is given to the company with the most total upload implementations during the year.

State Auto first won the award in 1997, and won it again in 2002 and 2003, the company said in a statement.

Strategic Insurance Software Inc. (SIS), State Auto’s software and hardware development subsidiary, also won several awards, topping its performance in 2003, during which SIS was bestowed awards for XML Certification, Early Adopter and Accomplished Outsourcers for the SIS Print Service (ACORD form print engine licensed to carriers). This year, SIS received these same three awards, plus ones for inaugural Early Forms Adopter, and Increased Upload Vendor of the Year awards, both for its SEMCI Partner product.

Upload technology is the means by which insurance agents can transmit new policy applications and other information to their companies electronically. It reduces the time and trouble of paper applications and streamlines the policy issuance process, overall. Closely related to this technology is the download application, whereby insurance companies can process and return the agencies’ submissions to them.

The State Auto Insurance Group primarily writes personal and commercial automobile, homeowners, commercial multiperil, workers’ compensation and fire insurance.

The companies currently market their products through more than 22,000 independent agents associated with about 3,400 agencies in 26 states. Products are marketed primarily in the Midwest and Eastern United States, excluding New York, New Jersey and New England.
