A Sioux Falls man has been named the new director of the Division of Insurance in South Dakota state government.
Merle Schreiber is a 25-year veteran of the insurance industry.
He replaces Gary Steuck, who resigned, effective Friday, to take a job in Mobridge overseeing the insurance operations of Aberdeen-based Dacotah Bank.
In March, Gov. Mike Rounds had suspended Steuck and an assistant director in the division for 10 working days without pay. They had sent a memo critical of the state legal system’s handling of a case against an insurance agent.
Schreiber takes over Aug. 8.
