Indiana Insurance Names New President

August 4, 2006

Loveland, Ohio-based Indiana Insurance, a member of the Liberty Mutual Group, announced today that Michael D. Connell has been appointed president and chief executive officer, effective August 16, 2006.

Connell’s appointment coincides with the retirement of Richard T. Bell, who has been president and chief executive officer of Indiana Insurance for the past seven years. Bell’s successful 38-year career also includes seven years as president and chief executive officer of Peerless Insurance, also a member of Liberty Mutual Group.

“Rick’s tremendous leadership was responsible for operational and financial success at both Indiana and Peerless,” said Scott R. Goodby, executive vice president, Liberty Mutual Agency Markets. “In fact, Indiana Insurance finished 2005 with its strongest balance sheet in 155 years.”

Connell was most recently president and chief executive officer of Hawkeye-Security Insurance, also a member of Liberty Mutual Group. During his two-and-a-half year tenure, he significantly improved company operations, in part, through key personnel hires. As regional vice president with Indiana Insurance from 1996 to 2004, Connell’s accomplishments included the establishment and expansion of the Nashville office.

“Mike has led significant improvements for Hawkeye-Security Insurance and has a proven track record previously with Indiana Insurance. His leadership skills and strong agent relationships will be instrumental in Indiana’s continued success in the region,” said Goodby.

“I look forward to returning to the Indiana organization and building on our strengths of providing exceptional commercial and personal lines products and services to our customers exclusively through our appointed independent agents,” said Connell.Indiana Insurance offers property and casualty products, including a comprehensive set of personal and commercial coverage, distributed only through appointed independent agents.

Indiana Insurance provides insurance in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee and is part of Liberty Mutual Agency Markets, a business unit of Liberty Mutual Group, consisting of property and casualty and specialty insurance carriers that distribute their products and services primarily through independent agents and brokers.
