Mo. Department Reorganization Combines Three Divisions

August 30, 2006

Missouri Insurance Director Dale Finke this week unveiled the new Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration (DIFP).

According to the statement, the new department stems from the transfer of the Divisions of Finance, Credit Unions and Professional Registration from the Department of Economic Development to the Missouri Department of Insurance. DIFP is charged with the primary function of regulating industries and individuals.

“Before reorganizing, we all worked to license qualified professionals, to ensure financial solvency of commercial institutions and to protect consumers through proper regulation and education,” Finke said. “DIFP allows us to provide a more coherent and comprehensive approach to these tasks for better coordination of government.”

On Feb. 1, after Missouri Governor Blunt signed Executive Order 06-04 creating the new department, Finke began coordinating the consolidation into DIFP. One of the first steps was separating the department into seven divisions: the Consumer Affairs Division, Insurance Solvency and Company Regulation Division, Insurance Market Regulation Division, Resource Administration Division, Division of Finance, Division of Credit Unions and Division of Professional Registration.

“Over the past few months, we have worked diligently to make this transition a success,” Finke said. “From mail operations to legislation coordination, we have identified and planned necessary actions that need to be taken to make this department cohesive and functional.”

To learn more about the organizational structure and mission of DIFP, visit the department’s web site at www.difp.mo.gov. From this site, one will find information on the new divisions that make up DIFP. Additional items will be added to the web site as DIFP consolidates and continues to combine its resources.

“We will continue to cooperate together to ensure that there is no interruption of programs or services from any facet of this new department,” Finke said.
