Ohio Oswald Companies Partners with Wellness Coaches USA

September 8, 2006

Oswald Companies announced this week that it will offer employers an on-site wellness coaching service through an exclusive partnership with Wellness Coaches USA. This service provides face-to-face, personalized support to help employees make healthy lifestyle changes. Employees with fewer health risks means lower healthcare and workers’ compensation costs and increased productivity for employers, the Oswald written statement said.

Wellness Coaches USA specializes in onsite worksite wellness coaching and has granted Oswald Companies exclusive distribution rights for the entire state of Ohio. The partnership combines Oswald’s expertise in group benefits, workers’ compensation, and population health management with Wellness Coaches USA’s track record of success in lowering healthcare costs and improving worker productivity through its innovative coaching service, the Oswald release said.

“There’s no doubt that health care and lost-time costs are hurting businesses in today’s global marketplace,” said Neil Quinn, director of strategic health management services for Oswald Companies. “The lion’s share of these costs is driven by modifiable health risks and preventable chronic health conditions. Our research shows that the majority of employees who smoke, or are overweight, or have high stress or other health risks want to change. But for change to occur employees need three key ingredients: knowledge, guidance, and ongoing support.”

According to Wellness Coaches USA, the success rate is 75 to 90 percent of employees participating. This success is achieved by having one or more dedicated wellness coaches go to work onsite every day with employees. The coaching is diverse and individualized. It ensures that each employee understands the results of their personal health risk appraisal, creates a personal wellness plan, and establishes attainable goals that the employee and coach work toward together. Employee health information is kept confidential, avoiding problems associated with medical privacy.

“We’ve seen dramatic reductions in employee health risk profiles at the more than 45 companies we are now working with,” says Jay Vandergrift, Jr., president for Wellness Coaches USA. “And this leads to significant reductions in health insurance and workers’ compensation costs, with some companies seeing costs fall by a third in comparison to peer companies.”

“We have a reputation for bringing truly effective total risk management solutions to our clients,” said Robert Klonk, executive vice president of group benefits for Oswald Companies. “Our partnership with Wellness Coaches USA strengthens our solutions for meeting the financial objectives of employers. It’s a very cost effective way to provide employees with personalized health coaching delivered by trained wellness professionals, making it a win for both our clients and their employees.”

Oswald Companies will provide an overview of the wellness coaching service at a free breakfast forum on Thursday, October 5 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Embassy Suites, 5800 Rockside Woods Blvd. in Independence.

Headquartered in Cleveland, Oswald Companies and its 450 employees provide products and global services in risk management, property and casualty insurance, life insurance, group benefits and retirement plans from offices in Florida, Michigan, North Carolina and Ohio. Oswald Companies is supported by 20,000 professionals at 117 independently owned insurance brokers on six continents as an Assurex Global Partner.
