Nearly 1,100 insurance consumers were assisted by the South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation, Division of Insurance during fiscal year 2006, according to figures released by the division.
Fiscal year end statistics show the Division of Insurance helped 1,087 consumers who had written the agency requesting assistance. The division successfully recovered $1,720,091.76 for consumers this past fiscal year. Whether people have a specific insurance problem or simply need information, Division Director Merle Scheiber says his staff is ready to help.
“The calls and letters we get from consumers range from just general questions about insurance coverage to specific situations where people are having difficulties with their insurance provider,” Scheiber said. “We take all inquiries we receive seriously and do our best to get the consumer the help they need. They are always encouraged to utilize the division’s services, no matter what the situation.”
