The 23-year-old son of Morgan County Sheriff Robert Garner has been sentenced to one year in prison on arson charges.
Robert Jake Garner pleaded guilty in September to five charges in a series of suspicious fires since 2001 in Morgan County, southwest of Indianapolis. In return, prosecutors dropped 14 other charges.
A Johnson County judge ordered Garner to serve one year in prison, with the possibility of being released after six months for good behavior. He will also serve six months home detention.
The charges linked Garner to fires that destroyed a vacant modular home and ones that damaged a vehicle salvage lot and a landscaping business.
