Western National Insurance Group Announces Officer Promotions
The Board of Directors meeting of Western National Mutual Insurance Company met on June 10 and promoted Leon Smith to chief financial officer and Kevin J. Christy, vice president – chief actuary.
Smith has been with the company 11 years, most recently serving as treasurer. He is responsible for all accounting functions, in addition to premium billing and investment activities. Previously he spent 25 years with American Hardware and 3 years with Motorists Mutual in various and progressively more responsible accounting roles.
Christy started his insurance career at Capitol Indemnity. He joined Western National in 1999 as an actuarial assistant. Since then, and he has served as the manager of the Research and Development Department for all Western National companies. With this promotion, he will retain the ratemaking and policy form duties of his current position, as well as his duties in reserving and reinsurance. In addition, he will assume management responsibility for the marketing side of Sales & Marketing, reporting to Executive Vice President – Underwriting & Marketing, David Eide.
Western National Insurance Group consists of five regional property /casualty insurance companies with shared administrative offices in Edina, Minn. All of the companies’ products are sold exclusively through professional independent agents.
