The American Agricultural Insurance Company (AAIC), based in Schaumburg, Ill., has appointed Janet S. Katz as the company’s new executive vice president and chief executive officer, effective July 1, 2009.
Katz is a 20-year veteran of AAIC. She joined the actuarial department of the company in 1989 after graduating from the University of Chicago. During her tenure, Katz has held numerous positions with the company and was promoted to senior vice president and chief operating officer in 2007.
Katz is a Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and has earned the CPCU and Associate in Reinsurance designations.
Katz will succeed Virgil Applequist, who announced his retirement at the company’s annual meeting on May 5. Applequist served nearly 32 years with AAIC, the past 18 years as general manager/executive vice president/CEO.
AAIC is the largest, independent, private, American-owned, reinsurance company in the United States.
