first of all, the company was hired to take the kids to the overseas program while in the foreign country. the university did not have to provide any transportation. but anyone travelling overseas could be in trouble for anything. first of all, this person was supposedly raped at his home while at tea in his house. so how does this become an issue with the transportation? he did not committ the crime on or in the bus or it’s terminal. sounds to me she wants compensation for a bad moment and making a bad decision. compensation of any would be by the one who committed the crime!

and chalks it up to the victim “making a bad decision.” Fascinating!

rape: defined? i think we need to think this over, instead of defining things. first of all, she made a choice to go to this guy’s house. a choice she made, not the university. so the university is not resposible for any choices she decides to make. granted this choice may have led to a crime that we all hate to make. think of as this, it is the law to wear seatbelts and it can save lives. how many folks do not wear them? how many lives could have been saved or injuries lessened because we could have been in one? you could have met the guy at the bar instead of a bus driver. crime is bad and so is rape. sometimes we can help ourselves by making good choices. sometimes even good choices can lead to bad events. so choose how your perceiving another person’s words. it’s like saying – is a glass 1/2 empty or 1/2 full!

No one is saying this girl wasn’t victimized and no one is blaming her for the crime, HOWEVER… The University is not responsible for this horrible act either. If she wants to get $75,000 out of anyone’s @$$ it should be the bus driver’s.

My favorite Wudchuck statement is that rape is “a crime that we all hate to make.” I don’t know quite what to make of that statement, but it is amusing.

for her rape. How dare she think she has the right to sip tea with a strange man?! She should have been more responsible and worn a burkha and, my God, just stayed home. What was she doing out in public, in a foreign country, the *****?

Did you even READ my last post??? I would NEVER say the victim is personally responsible for being raped, but she is personally responsible for going to his room. According to the article, the plaintiff is claiming the university is responsible for not warning students that they should never spend time alone with Mali men. So by that logic, the victim could also sue her mother or her grandmother or her father or brother for not giving her the same advice.

and here’s the correct understanding. even though she made a bad choice of where to be, that does not make the crime any more less. it might have been prevented if she had not gone to his house, but then again, you don’t know what might happen in a foreign place. much less, we sometimes don’t know what happens in places we do know. i think it would have been prudent not to have gone to his room/house.

Really, what kind of idiot attourney says your right… That college should have taught you not to talk to strangers, we should take them for all they have. I mean come on… My 4 year old daughter knows enough not to talk to strangers. Your telling me this 20 some year old young lady didn’t realize she was taking a risk going into a strangers house. Could someone please explain to me how the school should be liable for her bodily injury that came as a result of her negligence.

well, the university should not be held, because
    1) it was not held on company grounds.
    2) this company was hired to drive these kids to the various places.
    3) she was invited to his house and she accepted. even though she accept the invitation, does not mean he had other thoughts/actions.

it’s on foreign soil! how is the court going to accept responsibility of this action anyways? TOSS it out and stop bogging our courts!

Mali Men use the tea line often. If a Mali Man asks you to come join him for tea and you accept. He is really saying…
Hey, I want to have S@@ with you and please to have tea afterwards.

…I throw out this case. It’s a tragic event but I hardly see where Ohio University is responsible.
