The Kansas Insurance Department announced September 2009 was a record month for insurance claim recoveries.
The department’s Consumer Assistance Division recovered almost $4.5 million from insurance companies as a result of the resolution of disputed claims.
The amount is based on inquiries and formal complaints filed with the department by policyholders.
The money recovered is above and beyond what companies had originally offered policyholders in claims settlements.
From 2003 through 2008, the insurance department has recovered nearly $72 million for Kansas policyholders through claims dispute resolution, the department noted.
